Google Expeditions Visit BSCA Primary School

Expeditions is a virtual reality app specially designed for the classroom and there are over 200 different expeditions ranging from exploring under the sea to watching the Northern Lights to a tour of Buckingham Palace that users can join in with. Using a mobile phone or a tablet and a viewer the world becomes an even more fascinating place.

Liane O’Toole from Google arrived with phones and viewers and after an early morning training session for staff all the primary students took a turn at exploring a topic with Liane and their class teacher. They were twisting and turning through 360 degrees, pointing out interesting sights along the way with ‘ooo’s and ahhh’s’ being made all the time.

Lianne dashed around the students helping answer any questions and sorting the little hiccups as they happened. With her support the staff could show the students how to make sure they got the best out of the expedition. Mr Hill and Year 4 took a tour of the sea and spotted a humpback whale swimming around and using the controls they we able to see and name the smaller fish swimming on the seabed that the whales eat!

Everyone was in total agreement the experience was totally amazing and just so ideal for gaining experience of topics discussed and researched in class that no one could hope to experience – just yet in their life anyway!.
