‘Then Daniel became distinguished above all the other high officials and satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him. And the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.’ Daniel 6:3

THOUGHT OF THE WEEKbecause an excellent spirit was in him.png

I don’t know about you, but I am really competitive. I always have to win, it doesn’t even matter what it is, I just have to win. This week in assemblies we have been talking about how the book of Matthew shows Jesus’ excellence. As I was preparing for primary’s assembly, I had a bit of a mind block on how to explain that to the students. I eventually came to the conclusion that excellence is doing the best with what you have got, not necessarily winning. So I had 3 students come to the front and in a minute they had to build the tallest tower. One had toilet roll, another had plastic cups and the third had marshmallows. As you can imagine, the one who had cups won. I paused and asked the girl with the marshmallows what happened, she explained how she had tried her best. She did the best with what she had. The bible is full of examples of people who may not have been the best, but God still chose to use them as He knew they would do it with excellence.

CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK

I think the challenge for us all is to do things with excellence in all areas not coming with the mentality of ‘it’ll do’. A friend once said ‘it’ll do, will never do’. If you find yourself saying ‘it’ll do’, use it as an opportunity to challenge yourself on if you are doing your best in all situations, whether it is in the classroom or in the office, whether it is with a staff member or in the office. The verse above refers to Daniel who had an ‘excellent spirit’, this set him above everyone else around him. I, personally, want to be known for being excellent in all areas of life but especially in school.

Let’s also challenge our students to stamp out the mentality of it'll be reet’ (as the students would say).
