'For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and a sound mind.'

2 Timothy 1:7

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

The final attribute of Jesus we looked at in assemblies this week is power shown in John's gospel. I don't know about you, but when I think of power things like strength, winning and superheroes comes to mind but also weakness and fear as the opposite of power.

I was in the car the other day with one of my friends and she was explaining her fear of small holes. My instant reaction was ‘that is not a real thing’ so she made me google it. I googled it to find that Trypophobia is actually a real fear. There are some fears that, to me, seem ridiculous but then there are other fears that really petrify some of us. In the verse above it explains that fear is not something from God. In fact, another place in the bible it says that ‘perfect love casts out fear’ emphasising that love and power go hand in hand.

CHALLENGE OF THE WEEK

We all have fears - something that scares us, something that shakes us to the core.

Today, review your fears and choose to step out knowing that God does not give us fear but gives us power, love and a sound mind. Jesus did many things that would probably scare us like being in the middle of a storm, healing people, going against what everyone else would have done yet he knew that he had power.

Challenge yourself and students today to try and take a small step to overcoming a fear and walking in power and bravery this week. This doesn’t mean it won’t scare you but it is about feeling the fear and doing it anyway.
