Academy Students Serve the Community

Thirteen members of the ‘Golden Oldies’ who range from 67 to 87 years old, and meet three times a week at ‘Meadowside’ in Tonge Moor visited Bolton St Catherine’s Academy on 3rd December for a very special lunch.

Exploring other Cultures

During the term the PLB, Nurture and Year 10 Speech and Language groups have spent many of their lessons learning about diversity and other cultures to help them understand other people’s beliefs and different ways of life. This happened as a result of them discussing current world events and wanting to know more about the ‘hatred’ of some cultures. Miss Patel, worked exceptionally hard with the other teachers to help them learn more. One lesson was about the use of henna and they had chance to decorate hands with henna.

Megan gives all her hair away

Year 9 student, Megan Artingstall, is planning to have all her hair cut off and donated to The Little Princess Trust. This charity makes wigs from real hair for young children who have lost theirs due to treatment for cancer, and needs money as well as raw materials as each wig costs £350 to make.

Students Make Someone Else's Christmas

Once again this year the Academy joined with lots of other organisations in packing and sending Christmas Shoeboxes to the poorest people on the planet. By following Samaritans Purse and their Operation Christmas Child campaign our students were able to make a difference to many children's Christmases and demonstrate the Christian value of charity. Pictured above are the students from our Resourced Provision with the boxes of gifts they have assembled and donated.

In what was a very moving event Chloe's sister Demi, Kyle Turner, Kelsie Morris, Elisha Curnock, Aimee Green and Sumaiyah Siddiq gathered with Chloe's family - a few words were said to celebrate her life and think of what could have been

Academy Celebrates 1950's

On Friday 4th December we held a 1950’s day to promote and raise money for the school show, ‘Grease’. All lessons incorporated a 1950’s theme, the restaurant was transformed into a 1950’s diner and the staff and cast of the show sprang a Grease “flash mob” on students at lunchtime!

New web site well on its way!

As reported in the last edition of Infinity a new website is being developed for the Academy. The new site will be more user friendly (including being fully viewable on mobile devices), contain a more comprehensive range of information than the current website and become one the of the primary sources of information and communication between the Academy and all its stakeholders.
