Is your child in Year 11 or 10? Why not explore the option of Sixth Form and come along to our Open Evening on the 17th October at 5.30pm.

You will have the opportunity to find out more about the exciting subjects that we teach.

Canon Slade will also be presenting their A' Level pathway to University.

Reasons why they should consider Sixth Form:

1.  It passes VERY quickly - after six years of Primary and another five of secondary school, lessons can seem like quite a drag. After all, you’ve been in education for the best part of your life. However, it’s a different story when you start Sixth Form, the two years speed by faster than you’d expect.

2.  You’ll be given an independence they've never before experienced in education - free periods, wearing your own clothes, lunches outside school, and most importantly, the ability to choose your next direction in life.

3.  If you have a career in mind it makes choosing the subjects you want to study much easier, but we don’t all know what we want to do when we are 16 years old.

  • Look beyond the subjects you did for GCSEs as there are many more subjects available. You can explore A’ Levels and BTECs which are more vocationally orientated qualifications than A’ levels, and research the components of the course to help you decide.

  • Thought needs to be given to what subject(s) you would enjoy as you will be far more likely to work harder and get a good grade.

  • Be realistic, ask yourself “do I want to spend two years studying this subject?”

  • Don’t take subjects just because your friends are

  • Don’t take subjects just because your friends are.

4. You will have the opportunity to study and resit their English and Maths GCSE alongside your further studies, if they haven’t already passed them.

Take plenty of time to research all your options and make your decisions. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. If the course content isn't clear then ask your teachers for clarification or more information.

Don’t think that this is going to be a final decision – you will be able change subjects at the start of the year if you’ve changed your mind. Remember life isn't a race. It isn't “If I don't choose the right A levels or BTEC subjects my life is over”. Lots of people change their minds about what they want to do with their life - both at school and later. And you won’t just have one job for the whole of the rest of your life.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday evening.
