Bennett Cup for Tchoukball Year 3 / 4
Seven teams from six schools took part in the Bennett Cup – BSCA A and BSCA B, Red Lane, Moorgate, Tonge Moor, Blackshaw and SS Osmund and Andrew.
For the first round the teams were divided into two groups, with four in one group and three in the other.
During the group stages both the group winners looked really strong, in particular a well-organized Tonge Moor.
In the first semi-final SS Osmund and Andrew were well beaten by the group runners up BSCA B but a greater shock came in the other semi when favourites Tonge Moor were beaten by the odd goal in 9 by a young BSCA A, a team featuring four of our year 3 students.
The third and fourth place match saw a tie for third place when SS Omund and Andrews and Tonge Moor played out a 3-3 draw.
The final, a true derby match, saw BSCA A edge out BSCA B by the narrowest of margins 5-4.
“the competition started off at a slow pace as the children got used to the size of the playing area which is much larger than your average school hall. As confidence improved so did the quality. What stood out for me was the quality of shooting by BSCA A player Bailey Brierley whose jump shooting was exceptional throughout and was a major factor in his team winning. Bailey is only in year 3 so defences beware next year!!!!!!!!!!!!” said Mr Leese.
