Bolton St Catherine’s Academy Cup - Year 2 Futsal
Seven teams from six local primary schools competed to win the cup, with Mr Leese busy keeping the event on track and encouraging everyone to do their best.
Tonge Moor, Castle Hill, Moorgate, St Stephen and All Martyrs CE, SS Osmunds and Andrew RCP, Bolton St Catherine’s Academy A and B were split into 2 groups and the matches began. The top two teams from each group went through to the semi-finals and there was certainly some effort made to secure those places.
The semi-finals involved a derby match when Bolton St Catherine’s Academy A and B played each other and after normal time they couldn’t be separated. The hard fought goal in extra time meant the B team progressed to the final. The other semi-final saw the current holders of the cup SS Osmunds and Andrew RCP cruise past St Stephen and All martyrs CE by 3 – 1.
The final was a really exciting match and after normal time the score was level at 1 -1! . Chris Jones had given SS Osmunds and Andrew RCP an early lead which was pegged back by a goal from Enersson Ngogeh, playing his very first competition in his first week at the Academy.
No goals were scored in extra time and so the match went to the ‘Golden Goal’. In truth St Osmunds and St Andrew had a number of great chances to score, poor finishing and the heroics of Joe Burgoyne in goal were their stumbling block. In the first minute of ‘Golden Goal’ time that saw the Captain of Bolton St Catherine’s Academy B, Leo Morley break away and calmly slid a shot past the SS Osmunds and Andrew goal keeper. It was certainly a nail biting mat
