Year 11 Brathay Hall Learning Weekend

Thirty students from Year 11 visited “The Brathay Hall Estate in the Lake District for a residential weekend. Brathay Hall is set in 360 acres of the Lake District at the head of Lake Windermere and is an inspirational place to learn and develop. They aim of the centre is to help  capture the imaginations of young people and adults alike, pushing their creative independence and inspiring them to achieve personal change in a positive and supportive environment.

The thirty students worked with their usual Maths and English teachers to develop their knowledge and practice their exam skills in a more relaxed environment with none of the daily pressures being there. Both staff and students worked hard during the two days to ensure that there were no missed learning opportunities and no question however small or somewhat ‘silly’ wasn’t answered. The peaceful environment gave everyone a huge sense of ‘calm and mindfulness’

The weekend wasn’t all work though….. the students also took part in team building activities that stretched their confidence, self-esteem and promoted a growth mind-set ready to revise for the forthcoming mock exams. The pupils enjoyed swinging from the high ropes, team challenges and a lovely morning on Lake Windermere.

The students were a credit to themselves and the Academy is confident this experience has come at a vital time and will help them prepare for their examinations.
