CATS – the Musical Features BSCA Students

CATS the musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Weber is based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats. The show is set amongst a larger than life junkyard playground and is alive with our favourite feline characters including RUM Tum Tugger, Mr Mistoffelees, Macivity, Jennyanydots, Old Deuteronomy, Grizabella and Skimbleshanks.

BCMCS Youth Theatre under the direction of Liz Hume Dawson (who regularly supports our drama department at BSCA), the backstage team and all the 34 young actors and actresses rehearsed and rehearsed until the opening night arrived.

Three of our students had a role in the production – Nathaniel Elechi – Mistoffelees, Kurtis Greenhalgh – Growltiger and Clarice Greenhalgh – Plato. Alex Latham who left us last summer was cast as Alonzo.

Jason Crompton, a theatre critic, who went along to watch the show was highly complimentary about the show and commented ‘If I had space I would mention every cast member as I thought everyone was fantastic and worked really well as a team’. He then went on to write about individual cast members including Nathaniel ‘his dancing was fantastic’.

Do look out for their next show as these young people certainly deserve going to watch them perform.
