Year 9 students have recently visited Manchester University to take part in TeenTech – part of the national STEM initiative.

The day involved speaking to people from a range of industries including the BBC Academy, Maplin and Sodexo about their jobs and completing tasks such as fingerprinting for criminal investigation and problem solving on electrical circuits to help them learn about different industries and the different job roles they may offer. Five students won prizes for themselves including gift vouchers and Raspberry Pi accessories. BSCA won the electrical wiring competition by being the fastest to successfully complete the task !

Miss Lalleyett along with students Bradley Edwards, Jez Walker-Patterson, Joshua Oxford, Alicia O’Gara, Molly Mc Dermott, Codyleigh Caldecott, Kiera Taylor, Aaliyah Hughes and Kayleigh Carter all enjoyed the day, meeting employers, taking part in activities, learning new skills and experiencing potential job opportunities.

Aaliyah-Rose wrote a review of the day ‘I enjoyed the science trip to Manchester University because it was engaging and fun. I enjoyed all of the stalls and winning the science prize. The team building activities were fun and different. However, the tea could have been improved and taste better but overall it was a good day out. The best part was making bouncy balls and having purple hands afterwards.’
