More than a Sixth Form

Sixth Form 2015 (21).jpgSporting Opportunities

All Sixth Form students have access to a suite of first class sporting facilities including:

  • large sports halls
  • basketball courts
  • cricket nets
  • gymnasium
  • full-size floodlit 4G Football Pitch

For our elite sports students personalised and flexible schedules are drafted to allow them to continue with strict training regimes whilst furthering their academic careers. This has resulted in a number of students reaching national squads during their time at Bolton St Catherine's Academy Sixth Form.

Work Experience

In year 12 all students are expected to complete a CJP_8133.JPGweek's work experience which usually takes place the last week of the summer term.  It is the student's responsibility to arrange their own placements.  Students should ideally find their placements within the industry in which they wish to have a career.  NO placements are allowed within the Academy.

Any students who DO NOT complete their work experience week will not be taken through to year 13.

We would advise all students to think about their placements and not leave it to the last minute to find.  The Sixth Form Team are available to give advice.

Enterprise and Charity Activities

Bolton St Catherine’s Academy endorses a number of charities that support young and vulnerable members of society both locally and internationally. All Sixth Form students are encouraged to take an active role in this work and provide leadership for teams of younger students whilst they embark on fundraising projects.

Safe Driving

Safe Driving.JPGSafe Driving is run every year for our students by the Fire Service along with representatives from GMP, Paramedics and NHS.

Students watch a theatre production about real-life emergency services situations that have occurred because of accidents caused by young drivers. It gives our young people visual information about the realities of driving, and how important it is to drive responsibly.

Following the performance the team come into school and the students use a simulator to learn how to drive, but also to experience what it feels like to drive inhibited, for example, when tired.

It is a hard hitting experience, but one that stays with our students.

Firwood Work ExperienceFirwood New Logo.jpg

Bolton St Catherine’s Academy Sixth Form is co-located with Firwood Special School. All Sixth Form students are provided with the opportunity to volunteer to support the learning of Firwood students.
This has proven to be particularly useful for students looking to pursue a career in Health Care, however, the personal rewards of this work is even greater.Sixth Form 2015 (158).jpg

Primary Work Experience

As an All-Through Academy, we feel there is enormous benefit to older students supporting the personal and academic development of younger children. All Sixth Form students are provided with the opportunity to do so. Volunteers can be trained as Reading Coaches, Enterprise Team Leaders and Student Mentors.
