Sporting Opportunities

All Sixth Form students have access to a suite of first class sporting facilities including:

  • large sports halls
  • basketball courts
  • cricket nets
  • gymnasium
  • full-size floodlit 4G Football Pitch

For our elite sports students personalised and flexible schedules are drafted to allow them to continue with strict training regimes whilst furthering their academic careers. This has resulted in a number of students reaching national squads during their time at Bolton St Catherine's Academy Sixth Form.

Enterprise and Charity Activities

Bolton St Catherine’s Academy endorses a number of charities that support young and vulnerable members of society both locally and internationally. All Sixth Form students are encouraged to take an active role in this work and provide leadership for teams of younger students whilst they embark on fundraising projects.

Academy Productions

Sixth Form students are provided with the opportunity to get involved in costume design, lighting, front of house hospitality, ticket and brochure design and of course, performance. Recent productions have included Blood Brothers, High School Musical and a project with the Royal Shakespeare Company entitled Mystery, Mischief and Murder.

Cultural Trips

Bolton St Catherine’s Academy Sixth Form is committed to broadening the horizons and experiences of its students. Sixth Form students are therefore provided with the opportunity to experience cultures of other countries through international trips. Recent trips have seen students go to France, Belgium and Germany, including a choir tour to Barcelona.

Firwood Work Experience

Bolton St Catherine’s Academy Sixth Form is co-located with Firwood Special School. All Sixth Form students are provided with the opportunity to volunteer to support the learning of Firwood students.
This has proven to be particularly useful for students looking to pursue a career in Health Care, however, the personal rewards of this work is even greater.

Primary Work Experience

As an All-Through Academy, we feel there is enormous benefit to older students supporting the personal and academic development of younger children. All Sixth Form students are provided with the opportunity to do so. Volunteers can be trained as Reading Coaches, Enterprise Team Leaders and Student Mentors.
