Our History
Bolton St Catherine's Academy was formed in September 2009, and is a mixed Church of England all-through school - Nursery from age 3 to Year 11. Our admissions are co-ordinated by Bolton Council. Our Nursery and Primary phases have double class entry, and our Secondary has 160 students per year.
In 2012 BSCA relocated to a £36million building with state of the art facilities to support children’s learning located on Stitch-Mi-Lane in Harwood. These facilities are amongst the very best in the country and support us in delivering a rich, varied and relevant learning experience.
On the 30th January 2014 the building was officially opened by Sir Philip Craven MBE. Sir Philip Lee Craven MBE is from Bolton and is an English sports administrator, former Paralympic wheelchair basketball player, swimmer and track and field athlete. Between 2001 and 2017 he was the second president of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
We became part of a Multi-Academy Trust, The Bishop Fraser Trust in May 2018, alongside Canon Slade School and St James's CofE High School - www.thebishopfrasertrust.org.uk. Bury Church of England High School joined the trust in January 2022. Being part of the Trust anables each school to collaborate with each other, share expertise and utilise resources.
Bolton St Catherine’s Academy is a purposeful and high achieving educational community for children and young people aged 3 to 16. We have the very highest expectations of our students and work tirelessly to ensure that challenging targets and goals are achieved, not just in academic performance but in all aspects of school life. The care, guidance and support given to our students is exceptional. Our values at Bolton St Catherine’s Academy are underpinned by a growing Christian ethos and we are proud to be an inclusive Academy for those of Christian faith, for those of other faiths, and those of no faith.
