Updated National Covid-19 Guidance - Sent home Thursday 16th December 2021

From Tuesday 14th December, a new national Daily Testing of Contacts of Covid (DTCC) policy is being introduced.

It is crucial for the health and wellbeing of our students, their families, and our staff that we all follow this national guidance. Early identification of Covid-19 helps to reduce the spread of the virus. Here is the new guidance:

Positive case as a close contact, including anyone is the same household

People who are fully vaccinated or children/young people (aged between 5 and 18 years and 6 months), identified as a close contact of someone with Covid-19 – (whether Omicron or not) should:

  1. Take an NHS rapid lateral flow test every day for seven days (see below for further information about what this involves) before leaving for school each morning during this period.
  2. Inform the NHS Online Reporting System of the LFD test result.
  3. Inform school of the LFD test result.
  4. Continue to attend school as normal unless they have a positive test result.

Children under 5 years are exempt from self-isolation and do not need to take part in daily testing.

People over the age of 18 years who are unvaccinated must self-isolate for ten days (from the date of their positive LFD test result).

The process for identifying contacts has not changed and will continue to be managed by NHS Test & Trace.

 

What does daily lateral flow testing involve?
Once notified by Test and Trace, or the NHS Covid-19 app that they are a contact, all eligible students should take a LFD test each day for seven days (or ten days since your last known contact with the person who has since tested positive for Covid-19, if this is earlier than the seven days), and report the results via the NHS Online Reporting System.

Students should complete their daily LFD test before leaving the house for the first time each day. If they test negative, they should continue to attend their education setting, and they should follow national guidance and remain cautious around vulnerable people.
If someone tests positive with an LFD test, they should self-isolate immediately and arrange a PCR test to confirm the positive result: You can arrange a free PCR test to check if you have coronavirus (COVID-19) through the government website (www.gov.uk). Anyone with a positive PCR test, must self-isolate for ten days (from the date of their positive LFD test result). If the PCR test is negative, they no longer need to self-isolate but they should continue to carry out the remainder of their daily tests.

 

Do I need to inform school that my child is close contact or update school on daily testing?

Yes. You will be contacted by NHS Track and Trace and you will report your daily tests via the NHS Online Reporting System (see lateral flow test instructions for further information.)
You can then forward that confirmation email to school via email – contact@boltonstcatherinesacademy.org.uk or School Gateway. We can then be assured that we are minimising our risk in the best way possible.

 

Where do I get additional lateral flow tests?
School has a supply of lateral flow tests and students will be issued with these by their head of year to permit regular twice weekly testing. Lateral flow tests continue to be available at local pharmacies. Where requested, we will endeavour to supply test kits for daily contact testing, but you should take steps to ensure that you have a supply from a pharmacy as close contacts will be required to isolate if they are unable to complete a daily test.

Should my child continue to lateral flow test twice a week?
Yes, this new system does not change the need to routinely lateral flow test twice per week.

Covid-19 Update - 15th October 2021

A reminder and a plea. We have had very, very few cases of Covid in school since September, but please do not send in your children if they are displaying symptoms or if you are waiting for a PCR test result.  

What should I do if my child develops COVID-19 symptoms?

The main symptoms of COVID-19 are:

  • new continuous cough and/or
  • fever (temperature of 37.8°C or higher)
  • loss of or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

If your child develops any of these symptoms, you must arrange for them to have a PCR test as soon as possible. A PCR test can be arranged via the NHS UK (www.nhs.uk) website or by contacting NHS 119 via telephone if you do not have internet access. Your child should self-isolate immediately and they should not attend school.

Please contact the school by phone or Gateway app or email to inform us your child has COVID-19 symptoms and you are awaiting a COVID-19 test.

What should I do if my child is a contact of someone with COVID-19 confirmed by PCR test?

If your child is aged under 18 years and 6 months and does not have any symptoms of COVID-19 (high temperature, new continuous cough, loss of or change in, normal sense of taste or smell) they do not have to self-isolate as a contact of COVID-19.

They are advised to have a PCR test unless they have had a positive PCR test in the last 90 days. As long as your child has no symptoms, there are not required to isolate while awaiting the result of their own PCR test. Children aged 5 and under are not advised to take a PCR test unless the confirmed case is someone in their own household.

General Data Protection Regulation

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is new legislation that all people and organisations must comply with by 25th May 2018. This replaces the 1998 Data protection Act. Even with Britain leaving the E.U. the government have adopted this legislation.

For schools this applies to ensuring all our stakeholders are aware of what data we hold on them, why we hold it and how long for. To ensure our stakeholders are aware of this we have published on the school website our privacy notices which inform students and parents of how we will use their data.  

Anyone is allowed access to the data that we hold on them as long as it is not against the public interest. As a school we aim to comply with the all the guidelines from the data regulator the Information Commissioners office.

School Closure (due to adverse weather conditions) Process

The procedures that we will take should there be the need for any closure of the school due to extreme weather, or other emergency conditions. We will do all that we can to ensure that the school only closes when completely unavoidable and any decision to close the school will be taken from assessing local conditions, and an assessment of risk to the safety of students and staff after safety precautions have been taken.

Student and Parent Information                              

It is essential we have the correct information for all our students on our systems for the health, safety, safeguarding and wellbeing of your child. It enables us to contact you when we need to either by phone, email, School Gateway app or letter home -

  • student home address
  • prime (parents/carers) contact details - address, mobile number and email address. Other phone numbers will need to be provided if you are unable to use your mobile at work i.e. home number and work number
  • other contacts - mobile number

We require a minimum of two contacts for each student including at least one prime contact (parents/carer).  To update your details either send a change request or message via the School Gateway app or email us at contact@boltonstcatherinesacademy.org.uk  .
