Reflections of the Week

“For God did not give us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of sounds mind” – 2 Timothy 1:7

Last week we celebrated World Book Day as a school, and it got me thinking about what we read as staff members and how that influences us. You may love to relax with a book in your free time, or you may not be able to think of anything worse. But one thing I’m sure we each stay up to date with is reading every day is the news, whether that’s from paper articles, social media or websites. These past weeks have seen the news consumed with a global issue of which has the potential to cause fear in people. We can become obsessed with reading updates and obsessed with reading the ‘what if’s’ that surround the situation, which can leave us anxious about how we go about our daily lives. But this week, I wanted to help write a few words for us to read that will hopefully bring about feelings of hope and not fear.

Hand in hand with taking good advice from our government, my challenge for this week is to keep in sound mind as the verse says above. It may be easier said than done, but if there is any fear in you around this situation, then I would encourage you to think about what it is that you are filling your mind with. Whilst we want to stay updated on the news, what else are we choosing to focus on? There is so much positive news going on in our world and in our town, but often we miss it because we are so focused on the negatives. This week, actively choose to share positive stories with each other. Actively choose to search what good news is going on in our world. Let’s do all we can to keep in sound mind, and not allow fear to rob us of our hope for the future.

This week’s staff quote comes from the lovely Linda Marland…

“Push yourself, because no one else is going to do it for you.”
