Thought of the Week

Bear with me as I use this cliché… life is like a roller coaster, there are ups and there are downs with the odd loop-the-loop. Well, Mary’s life was like this, particularly as she was pregnant with Jesus. She probably had a mixture of excitement and worry at the start of her pregnancy but as it came nearer to the end, she had to travel to Bethlehem for the census which would have been a gruelling journey. When Mary gave birth, she found herself with no room in any inns, and had to have her baby in a stable amongst animals and dirt. The stress of having a baby on a woman's body huge anyway but Mary had to look ahead in order to endure what was happening around her.

Though stress would have been there, Mary knew she had to make the most out of her circumstances to reach the hope on the other side. I can’t quite compare my life to Mary’s circumstances but I do know that we all have challenging circumstances with ups and down but keep your eyes fixed on what is ahead and not focused on your current situation. This is not only a challenge but an encouragement: we have overcome obstacles before, seen others do it in history so we can absolutely do it again.

‘Don’t waste your time striving for perfection; instead strive for excellence.’
