Course Interviews - We are continuing to make daytime telephone interviews between our teaching commitments and in many cases we are reaching young people.  There is no interview booking system in place and those that had previously booked an evening interview will now receive a daytime call.  Tutors are using personal mobiles and 141 so their numbers will be displayed as ‘unknown’.

Apprentice Process – Our initial interview arrangements for those expressing an interest in an Apprenticeship remains the same as before lockdown:  Express an interest and receive a text to book an initial telephone interview. Apprentice interviews will be carried out at the time booked (Wednesday afternoons until 4.45pm).

If our Business Development Advisors feel a young person is ‘Apprenticeship Ready’ a subject specific Work Based Tutor will call them during this term to speak to them in more depth about their chosen career and the Apprenticeship pathway.

If a young person isn’t quite ready for an Apprenticeship, they will be referred to our Foundation Learning Team who I understand are developing an Apprenticeship Ready Study Programme.  The Foundation Team will contact the young person by phone to discuss this recommendation.

As always, anyone who doesn’t secure an Apprenticeship position by the end of July will receive information about how to enrol on to a course.

Applicants Generic Information Page - https://bit.ly/bcappsch<https://clicktime.symantec.com/3DFoeYrYFY6Sob3kKKJ8pWo6H2?u=https%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2Fbcappsch> - has proved popular and will stay in place until we return to ‘normal’.   If we update it, we will text young people with a nudge to revisit the link.

Enrolment

We are currently working on our enrolment plans for August and as soon as we have something more concrete we will share them with you.  What we do know is that enrolments will be done online this year and young people will need to upload their GCSE results for us to verify.  It is very unlikely that we will be able to see young people (or indeed anyone) face to face this year but we will provide support by phone and our livechat service.

The key message for Year 11s is to apply to Bolton College via our website so that we have their details and can keep in touch with them.  They will not be able to ‘walk  in’ in August and start the application process at that point as they could have previously.

The Bolton Sixth Form

For those students who have an interview arranged or are a late applicant, Bolton 6th Form College  intend to invite them to College W/C 22nd June and stagger interviews, maintaining social distancing measures. They are also hoping to offer a Parent Event in June which was originally planned for 29th April as a means of re-assuring parents of the steps they will be taking moving forward with courses and enrolment.

Bolton 6th Form College  plan to offer an activity each month for applicants joining them in September as part of the transition and this will be detailed on the website. The Sixth Form Bolton have now loaded some work on the website that Year 11’s can be working on.  If you go onto their website - http://www.bolton-sfc.ac.uk and then from the main menu select the drop down for >Courses >Transitional work for Year 11’s.  Not all subjects are completed yet so more information will be added next week then following on from that they will be updating that page on the 24th of each month with new tasks for year 11’s.

Students are welcome to apply on-line:  http://www.bolton-sfc.ac.uk and click on Apply. It would be important for applicants to bring their most recent set of target grades to determine a level of programme at the time of admission interview.
Students who failed to show for interview,  if you now wish to be considered please let me know as soon as possible so that you are re-invited for admission interview.

If any students need to contact The Sixth Form then they can only contact by email at the moment – enquiries@bolton.ac.uk<mailto:enquiries@bolton.ac.uk>.
