BSCA Futures – Helping you make the most of your future - Year 9 Options Evening

At BSCA we work hard with our year 9 students to find the best pathway for their future. The support given is key to young people making the right choices for their future whether that is in employment, an apprenticeship or further education.

The evening began with talks for parents and students in the main hall and Mr Richard Senior our Interim Principal spoke first. He said ‘Whichever courses you apply for, we will support you in the area that you would like to develop and also build on your current strengths. For you it will require a great attitude and lots of commitment both inside and outside the classroom for you to maximise on the opportunities given to you. Regular attendance is also a key to success. Anything less than 100% attendance and you will struggle to complete the course requirements. Learning at BSCA is designed to help you achieve the best for your future. Please think very hard about what you want to achieve in your life and discuss this with your parents and carers, as well as the staff who will be here to support your choices. Remember, we are here to help you – so please make sure you use all the information, support and opportunities to assist you in making the best choice you can.’

Everyone was then able to look around the subject displays and talk to staff to answer all the questions asked. The different departments and subject areas had all examples of work carried out by students in their subject, photographs of activities they would take part in, video clips, handouts, sample books as well as many years of experience and expertise in the range of subject areas.

Each student took home an Options booklet and Options Application Form with still plenty of time to research into the subjects and ask more questions after half-term. The Application Forms need to be returned to Form Tutors by 16th March at the latest.

The feedback from one parent regarding the evening was very rewarding, she said ‘I attended this event and it was superb! Informative speeches to start, which were clear and to the point. All staff present were full of energy and enthusiasm for their subjects giving both parents and students valuable and useful information. There was also a booklet which reiterated the facts and a great reference to take home. Last but not least, the time scale of 3 weeks to explore and complete the options form is a gem. Well done all, a super evening!!!!
