Year 13 Escape to Jodrell Bank

On a very wet dark Wednesday morning Year 13 Applied Science climbed into our minibus and escaped from Greater Manchester to Macclesfield to visit Jodrell Bank Observatory. Jodrell Bank Observatory is a British observatory that hosts a number of radio telescopes, and is part of the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Manchester.

The purpose of the visit was to support their work on astronomy, our solar system and beyond, and assist them to acquire the knowledge and understanding to complete the unit requirements. Mrs Leese had planned the visit to make sure everyone took full advantage of the observatory and Year 13 had to most definitely dodge the rain showers as there was plenty to see and research outside.

All that is left to do is the write up – a report detailing their findings, evaluating them and suggesting improvements. We hope the stars are guiding them to success.
