Transition Into University and Careers
We are committed to broadening students’ horizons and raising their aspirations, whatever your background. We feel it is important to foster your ambitions. Guest speakers, presentations, form time and other organised activities, - such as university visits are designed to enable you to make well informed decisions about your future and open your mind to your full potential.
In Year 12 the students visit a variety of universities to gain an insight into university life and the opportunities available. Students also attend the UCAS Convention at Manchester Central.
In preparation for the UCAS application process students receive additional preparation towards the end of Year 12. Sessions are delivered on Personal Statements and CV writing followed by a campus based session at Edge Hill University.
For those students wishing to move onto training or employment, the Academy’s Connexions Advisor is available to support as well as the form tutors and Sixth Form Leadership team.
Students are encouraged to engage in work experience placements during their time in Sixth Form. They are also advised on the benefits of work experience and the transferrable skills which they can develop.
If a student feels that an apprenticeship or another form of work based learning is the most appropriate pathway after studying with us, we have close links with the largest work based learning provider in Greater Manchester and one of the largest providers of apprenticeships in the North West.
All of our students participate in Skills Northwest. This is part of a national scheme of careers and skills events for young people focusing on bringing young people together with employers, training providers, higher education colleges and universities. The event opens students’ minds to the range of employment and training opportunities.
