Tina Crossley, Chloe Heaton and Claire Wierzbicki are our Christian based Youth Workers who support all our students, staff and parents across the Academy.

Their role as a team is to help our students bring our Christian values to life both in the school and in the community we live in. Together they work with our students to creatively support them, help them feel part of the community here, and involve them in making a difference in the wider community of Bolton and beyond. They offer anything from one to one support, group work, lunch clubs and charity fundraisers.

Tina says, “we believe it is vital to support a young person holistically, and therefore we partner with local churches to help our students explore faith in a relevant way so they can understand faith in action for themselves.”

We are all thankful at BSCA for the support they give us all year:

We have many projects and opportunities where young people can actively get involved in outworking our Academy values; here are some of the things we offer.

We are passionate that every student at school starts everything they do from a point of belief in themselves and in what they are aiming for. Therefore we run groups within breaks, lunchtimes and before/after school to explore self-value, faith and well-being. We also offer one-to-one mentoring to support anyone who needs it.

Hebrews 11:1 – Now faith is the confidence of what we hope for

Challenges strike at any time of life and we don’t hide that from our students. Instead we want to equip them for when challenges do come, with the tools they need to strive through them. As mentioned we run a mentoring project for students to have one to one support if they need it, for an agreed amount of time with their head of year. Also within our groups look at how we can change simple things like our language, to change perspectives on our struggles. We hope by doing this, we are equipping students with tools for life, to strive through any circumstances they may face.

Philippians 3:13 - But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead

As an Academy we want to not only invest inwardly into our school and students, but we want to impact the community we live in and beyond, in a positive way. That is why every year we choose to support a local charity - Urban Outreach, a national charity - Sports Relief/Comic Relief, and an international charity - Christian Aid. We rally our students together and create opportunities to raise money and resources creatively.

Ephesians 4:32 - And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ

Every student will achieve far more than they realise within their time here at school; whether that’s within their education, their relationships or their extra-curricular activities. We want to help young people to recognise all they are achieving and so we run projects to honour them publically, such as our #IAMBSCA Honours Board. We also run extra awards that they can work towards beyond their education, such as our Bishop Fraser Trust Award.

John 10:10 – Life, and life in all its fullness

As part of the Bishop Fraser Trust, we also work closely with the chaplains at Canon Slade - Rev Lily, and St James – Mr Hunter.

We aim to explore life and faith together closer in the coming years and are working on new initiatives to build upon the work currently being done already.
